I'll be keeping a bit quiet this weekend while I process.
Yesterday, I was offered a place at the University of St. Andrews to complete a PhD in Theology.
Which means, well, even if I take my good sweet time, I'd have a PhD in theology by the time I was 27.
I'm still processing, but I'm pretty sure the answer is going to be yes.
There are decisions to make: I may keep an original project on the Virgin Mary in French lay imagination in the Middle Ages ... but I also may switch to an exploration of the liturgy as embodied catechises, the why behind how we pray.
And I have other options to process: Duke, HBU, Paris this summer, opening a bakery ...
But for now, I'm microwaving a sweet potato (seven foods for Lent is real!) and giving thanks.
Thanksgiving in the season of the desert.
And thanksgiving for you all, as readers, because when I've been pushed to the limits in this work, when academia was too much, when I nearly quit and walked away from it all, you've been there, supportive, gracious, and good.
So thank you.
I'll see you Monday.
