The Story
In October 2011, Rhizome Publishing approached me about writing a book about reading Scripture as a means of reading the creation. A hop, skip, and a few emails later, we have arrived here. Wondrous, beautiful here.
The Book
The Table (working title) was born out of a series of blog posts I wrote in early 2011 concerned with reading Scripture well, as Story and narrative, as a means of understanding the way in which God reveals Himself to us in His world. I had been increasingly concerned with how Scripture was misread: either taken in a literal context that failed to receive the full mystery of Faith or taken to the extreme of metaphor so that no tangible Faith could be clung to.
So I wrote. I wrote my way on a journey to seek Him in the midst of the ordinary, to find Him through the words given to us in the singular Word, Christ our Saviour Himself.
This book shall be my offering, my confession, my gift to you, something to take along your own journey.
The Table is structured based upon the three parts of a sonata: Exposition, Development, Recapitulation, moving from Word to World to Word and World in conversation. It is tentatively structured into twelve chapters, four chapters per musical movement, and shall be approximately 84,000 words. The division are, as of now:
- Rest
- Story
- Incarnation
- Word
- Journey
- Liminal
- Evil
- Heaven
- Trinity
- Table
- Tabernacle
- Icon
